Devotional: May 7th

I am so excited!!! It is almost time for Winter Holiday. Tis the season to be jolly and all that. I mean, let's show some gratitude to the governments of so may countries that came up with the idea to have a Winter Holiday. However did they think of such a thing. And it so perfectly meshes with when the children are off from school in the winter time. Maybe that's why they did it.

Yeah, why did they set it at this particular time of the year? Is it because all the retailers have so much inventory left over from the beginning of the year that they want to have some huge sales so they make it a special time to spur people's desire to purchase gifts? Nah, that would be a stupid reason for having a holiday. That wouldn't make sense, plus it lacks sophistication.

Maybe it's because it's cold during this time of the year and the huge industrial plants feel like they need to shut down to keep their costs down to consumers for their product? Nah, it's usually colder during late January and early February anyway. Besides, being thoughtful enough to give employees paid breaks isn't really the strong point of our industrial giants today. Doing something like that, though certainly thoughtful and considerate, is really quite stupid.

I know it couldn't be because of the birth of Jesus, the one believed to be the Son of God and the Savior of the world. Intelligent people cannot give rise to speculative religious practices such as honoring the birth of their God to be their Savior. I understand that many have been using this time of the year for such celebrations, but surely the sophisticated people of the world are not going to borrow such a time and try to say that it really isn't a celebration of Jesus' birth but just a holiday?

I guess they are. I see the fir trees going up all over the place as symbols of the eternal nature of Jesus due to their year around green state. I see the candles being lit that symbolize that Christ is the light of the world. I see the stars going up which represent the star of Behtlehem that guided the wise men to Jesus. I see the wreaths being hung which formerly demonstrated the unending nature of the love of God in Christ.

Yep, the quasi-intellectual sophisticated educated public is celebrating Christmas. They just don't have the guts to admit it. They must be celebrating it, right? If they are that smart and that superior why aren't they coming up with an alternative time of the year for Winter Holiday and demanding it share all the respect that Christmas commands today? Ah yes, it's almost time for Winter Holiday, but it still looks like Christmas.
