Devotional: 17th of Adar

Let him smother me with kisses from his mouth (Song of Song of Solomon 1:2).

You may think of worship as singing a song, saying a blessing, being quiet, shouting out, kneeling down, reciting praises, and so on. But the essence of worship is not that. You'll find it hidden in the Greek word for worship used throughout the Brit Chadashah (New Covenant Scriptures). The word proskuneo speaks of "reverence." It comes from two words: pros which means "towards" and kuneo which means "kiss."

What is worship? It is to kiss God. Some find worship in the the Song of Shlomo (Solomon). They see in it an allegory describing our relationship with God. Its very first words are, "Let him smother me with kisses from his mouth, for your love is better than wine."

God wants to kiss you in his love. Likewise, worship is to kiss God. Is it too simple for you? Maybe worship is more simple than you imagined. It's as simple as kissing someone you love. In the same way, your relationship with God is the most intimate relationship and deepest love you can ever experience. How can you be in such a relationship without kissing? What is true worship? A kiss from your heart. Learn true worship. It's more simple and natural, more intimate and wonderful, than you ever imagined. It's as simple as a kiss.

...close my eyes and just start thinking of God's mercy, kindness, grace, and love.
