Devotional: 14th of Kislev

The things you heard from me ...commit to faithful people, such as will be competent to teach others also (2 Timothy 2:2).

I once heard it said that every gift and every talent that the Lord bestows upon us is given with someone else in mind. In other words, he wants us to share all we receive. Our job is to receive, then turn around and give it way!

In the above Scripture, Rabbi Sha'ul (Saul; i.e., Paul) exhorts Timothy to pass on all he has been taught to faithful ones who will likewise teach others. Clearly this was already happening in Sha'ul's life. In this one verse, we find four generations of believers: Sha'ul; Timothy (Sha'ul's disciple); Timothy's disciples; and finally, those whom his disciples teach. How attentive we would be when receiving instruction if we only knew that we were not learning for ourselves alone, but for others we would later teach.

How closely would we pay attention to a teaching if we knew that, the following day, we would need to pass on the same information to someone else? A disciple is a learner who eventually is sent to repeat the process. Keep this idea in mind as you receive instruction and as you participate in any form of ministry training. Remember that you are called to pass on to others that which you receive.

...seek to pass on to someone else that which I have received from another so that the Kingdom of God may grow.
