Devotional: 6th of Shevat

Whatever touches the altar will become holy (Exodus 29:37).

As Yeshua and his disciples made their way through the crowd, a woman who had been hemorrhaging for twelve years pushed through and grabbed the tzitzit (tassel) of Yeshua's garment (Luke 8:43; Numbers 15:37-41). According to the Torah, this woman's condition made her unclean, and as such, everything and everyone she touched was rendered unclean (Leviticus 15:25). However, her contact with Yeshua had the opposite effect. She was healed.

Like the altar of God, the holiness of Yeshua had the power to convey holiness to others. When Yeshua touched the leper in Matthew 8:3, the leprosy was cleansed. When the woman touched Yeshua's tzitzit, her hemorrhaging stopped. And when Yeshua took the hand of the dead daughter of the synagogue official (Luke 8:54), the little girl was brought back to life. All those conditions would have rendered anyone else unclean. But Yeshua is not just anyone. He is the Altar of God. In him sinful humanity and a holy God can meet. Because of his sacrifice, we can be sanctified when we encounter him.

...press in to touch the Holy Altar, Yeshua, for he is the only way that I can be cleansed of my sins.
