Devotional: 23rd of Shevat

To act justly, love grace and walk in purity with your God (Micah 6:8).

Here the prophet Micah exhorts us to God's highest standard. "To act justly" is to pursue God's order of righteousness in every sphere of our lives; thus we pray that Malchut HaShem (the Kingdom of God) will be established on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10). Justice is to be our goal and the motive for doing justice is love.

Love and justice are never contrary in the Scriptures. Indeed, in the above passage,Micah follows the words "to act justly" immediately with the words "love grace." They are tied together in one thought.

Finally, we are to walk with God in purity. As we walk with God, justice and grace become knit in our hearts. The gospel empowers our lives when we identify with Yeshua's crucifixion, which can put to death the self-centered motives that steer us away from pursuing justice, love, and a pure walk with God. Yeshua's resurrection power through the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) enables us to be people of love, justice and purity.

Yeshua's death and resurrection offer us the power to fulfill God's command given through Micah, the prophet.

...pursue God's righteousness with passion and love.
