Devotional: 8th of Sivan

The Good News about the Kingdom will be announced throughout the whole world as a witness to all the Goyim [nations]. It is then that the end will come (Matthew 24:14).

In May 1992, while flying home from a ministry trip to Russia, I was reading Matthew 24 and came upon the above passage. I'd read it many times before, but now it jumped out at me in a way it never had before.

As I pondered the word "nation," I recalled from my study of Greek that the word used in the original language is ethnos, from which we derive the word "ethnic." I understood more clearly than ever that Yeshua was talking not merely about countries, but the "people groups" within those countries.

Suddenly I realized that, although thousands of missionaries and evangelists were working in the former Soviet Union since the Iron Curtain was torn down, there were not even a handful who were focused on reaching the three million Jewish people scattered throughout this great land. I felt the Lord stirring my heart to make a deeper commitment to reaching our people in the former Soviet Union. Within the year, I was led to organize the Messianic music festivals that, since 1993, have reached hundreds of thousands with the gospel.

As Messianic Jews, we understand the priority of the gospel being "to the Jew especially, but equally to the Gentile" (Romans 1:16). Let us, as a movement, now take the responsibility Messiah has given us to bring the good news to our brethren in every corner of the globe. Until all Jewish people scattered throughout the nations hear the good news, Messiah will not return.

...pray for laborers to go to every Jewish community in the world where our people have been scattered.
