Devotional: 13th of Tammuz
He went to Sh'khem, where a man found him wandering around in the countryside (Genesis 37:14-15).
I recently read a story wherein the author masterfully wove together many seemingly unconnected episodes in the lives of numerous people. By the end of the book, it was evident that all the pieces had been necessary and worked together. Many of the characters never met nor even knew of the others who had dramatically impacted their lives. If this human writer could put together such a cohesive conclusion from such far-flung facts, I thought, how much more is the Author of life able to cause all things to work together for the good of those who love him!
Some have speculated on the identity of the man who found Joseph wandering in the fields and who then told him where to find his brothers. The focus in today's Scripture passage, as in the rest of the story of Joseph, is on the providentially arranged encounters that brought him from shepherding in the valley of Hebron to exaltation in Egyptwhere all the nations of the region came to him for food. God's nature has not changed over the last 3700 years. Whether or not all the connections are obvious to us, he is involved in orchestrating the course of the universe, including the destiny of nations and even the smallest details of our lives.
...see my life as an exquisitely written story, continually flowing from the pen of an unparalleled author. I will not fret or fear when there are unexpected twists and turns in the plot, but confidently continue on, knowing there is a glorious ending.
