Devotional: 1st of Teves
On the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains were seen (Genesis 8:5).
Suddenly, in the midst of a sky cloaked in darkness, a sliver of light appeared. At the same time, emerging from its watery shroud, a sliver of land appeared. These are two witnesses of the power of God to bring life to that which was devoid of it. Numerous other places in Scripture affirm this same message of resurrection and new life in connection with the appearance of the new moon. This is also what Yeshua taught regarding the new covenant, which he inaugurated by his death and resurrection. Those who enter into relationship with him reap the benefits of resurrection life.
It is no coincidence that Jeremiah 31 specifically speaks of that new covenant, ties it together with the promise of Israel's preservation and restoration, and speaks of the fixed order of the heavenly bodies as a sign of God's guarantee on the whole package. So whether we are partaking of the bread and the cup, or gazing up into the heavens at the beginning of each Hebrew month, let us be reminded that renewal and resurrection are available for us and for all Israel through the finished work of Yeshua.
...remember that the same gracious covenant that has made it possible to enter into a relationship with the God of Israel, has also guaranteed that he will always remain Israel's God.
