(Last week I touched on being at peace during a stressful season. This is a bit of a continuation -- stress relief you can use during the holidays, or anytime.)
*With a cup of herbal tea (and even a friend) -- Read Psalms 37
*While listening to Christmas Cd's (Point of Grace is awesome, as is any Celtic instrumental) -- Read 24 (or any chapter in Isaiah)
*While eating something decadent and chocolate -- Read Proverbs 12
*Soaking in a tub of hot water and sweet-smelling bubbles (with the bathroom door locked) -- Read Psalms 62
*Driving to a holiday celebration or performance (along with those traveling with you) -- Prayer for those involved in the celebration, that God will be glorified through what happens and someone who needs to hear about Christ will have listening ears.
*While standing in line at the mall or grocery store -- Thank God that you are able to afford what you are purchasing. Ask Him to show you others in need and how to help them.
*Enjoying the lights on your Christmas tree (with your spouse) -- Read, by candlelight, Song of Solomon 1
*While doing holiday baking (or to force yourself to do some holiday baking) -- Listen to upbeat Christmas music and dance (Jaci Velasquez and Harry Connick Jr. are great)
*After watching "It's a Wonderful Life" with your family -- Read Psalms 139 together
*While wrapping gifts -- Wrap up something you have on hand or make a mental list of people to whom you could give small or homemade gifts. (Focus on those who may not have much family or who need to see Christ's love.)
*Make an unexpected visit -- Drop in on a friend or neighbor you don't often see and bring them some tea or hot chocolate mix or a Christmas ornament, find out how they are doing and let them know you are praying for them -- keep it short.
*Tucking your kids into bed during the week before Christmas -- Read them Luke 1,2
Keep yourself in the Word during this busy time, stay connected to your Father and try a few of these ideas for a quick pick-me-up. (They don't take much time, money or planning!)
