10 Minutes Peace

Chocolateland
Date Posted: October 7, 2006

Just that title makes my mouth water. It sounds like a place I would love to go, being the incurable chocoholic that I am. Believe it or not I didn't even come up with it and I don't think it has anything to do with chocolate. I think it's a metaphor for heaven.

My four-year-old one day just popped up with this idea out of the blue (as he comes up with most ideas): "Why can't we go to Chocolateland? There would be hotdogs, spaghetti (or as he says pasketti) and hamburgers with cheese." He may even have mentioned chocolate, but I was trying not to giggle over the idea. I think he watched Willie Wonka too many times, as I remember wanting to go there too when I was young.

He went on to explain, though, that it is a place to go when you die. I visualized the streams and pools of chocolate from the movie and thought that wouldn't be a bad way to spend eternity, not minding if you ingest some as you swim.

But I also know God has prepared a place even more delicious than Chocolateland. Heaven promises streets of gold, not chocolate; a crystal sea, not a fudgy pool; and the presence of God Almighty to light the entire place. Will there be chocolate? Mead and ambrosia? Something better? No doubt.

Jesus said when he left that he was going to prepare a place for us "that where I am, there you may also be." Even better than chocolate, and less calories - spending eternity with the Lord. I'm sure Chocolateland will pale in comparison!
