I am not a morning person. In fact, rather than greet someone with the phrase "Good morning", I will say "hello", "how are you?" or any other inane greeting that comes to mind. This doesn't mean I don't think it's a good morning for someone, I just haven't reconciled myself to that fact yet.
A friend of mine will often open an event with a prayer of "Good morning, Lord", which is not just a greeting but a praise, a verbal high-five if you will. We are congratulating and thanking God for creating a beautiful day and including us in it.
Upon hearing this, I can't help but agree with it and feel that it is a good morning.God has a wonderful, individualized day planned for each of us if we just take time to come to Him and get the schedule.
It's so easy to let our own schedule crowd God out of our thoughts and lives during a busy morning. Then the afternoon gets hectic, and we just want to relax in the evening, and we're so tired we really meant to pray before falling asleep, but . . .
I have been there.
When the morning begins not with an alarm clock but a soggy toddler in your bed and the clothes you had planned to wear have a button missing and you're out of milk and Poptarts and the dog gets out of the pen and the car won't start and your picky eater left his lunch box at home -- I've had those mornings, thankfully not all at once!
Psalm 118:24 says - quote it with me - "This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." That day includes the morning!
Now there are some of you who can't understand why everyone doesn't bound out of bed at 5:30 a.m. and run two miles, iron everyone's clothes for the day and cook a healthy breakfast for the family. All I can say to you is -- snooze alarm!
God created the morning and the evening and apparently he created people who like to sleep during both times so there would always be someone awake to enjoy His world. How awesome is that!
In Psalm 5:3 David says, " In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation."
Although I'm not always awake and alert each morning, I am alive and I thank God for that. It may be a quick prayer, just an acknowledgement of the day and the opportunities ahead, but I do greet the Lord each morning. How can I not? He greets me majestically each day with sunshine or snowfall, flowering trees or falling leaves, smiling, crying or somtimes even blessedly snoozing children!
Good morning, Lord . . .
