Gotta Wear Shades
Date Posted: April 28, 2007

It's been a busy, crazy week, so here's an old favorite that reminds me of the spring sunshine.

During a youth bible study a couple of years ago I was talking to the kids about the nature of God. They decided He was powerful and loving. Then one of the boys said, "and really bright - like you have to put your sunglasses on."

It reminded me of the song from a few years ago (I'm sure you've heard it in commercials if you're not old enough to remember it on the airwaves), "My Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades." It was was about a scientific genius in college who had more prospects after graduation than she (or he) could believe.

What kind of prospects do we have when we "graduate" from this life? How does our future look? Do we need to pack our sunglasses in preparation for meeting our King?

Psalm 18 speaks of the "brightness of His (the Lord's) presence" and Revelation 22:5 says, om reference to the river of life, "There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light."

Sounds like a bright future to me!

One of the lines from the song says, "Things are going' great, and they're only gettin' better." I hope I can view my life in Christ like that. Even if I'm having a bad day, things are going great if I keep my joy in the Lord. And they're certainly going to get better in the next life.

So praise the Lord and put on your shades!
