How often have I rushed off from a committee meeting, curtailed shopping with a friend or stopped short playing with my kids to keep an appointment with the Lord for study or prayer time?
Sure, maybe I've rushed off to a church activity or fed my kids chips for supper to get to the mid-week family program on time, but what about my personal time with my Lord?
Perhaps if I think in different terms, I will realize the importance of this meeting.
If I allow it, the Lord wants to be my best friend. He will not be a fair weather friend. He will be there no matter what. He probably won't chide me when I eat too much chocolate, but he'll listen as I pour out my heart.
If I think of him as my best friend, will I need to remember to spend time with him each day or will I look forward to every moment we can share - talking, laughing, just sitting quietly?
When my appointment book is full, he shouldn't be left in the waiting room. He should be ushered in: first thing in the morning; between hectic meetings with adversaries; for and lunch that's more than business; when I'm exhausted at the end of the day, but the work isn't done.
Like a picture of my best friend on the piano, which I don't need to see to recall, His word should be in my heart, not just on my desk or in my tote bag. As my best friend's number is on speed dial, my line to him is always open.
Anyway, I've got to wrap this up - I'm meeting a friend!
