A Form Of Religion
Date Posted: June 13, 2021

"Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away." - 2 Timothy 3

It is exceedingly easy and convenient in our world to create a form of religious beliefs that fit the individual. It sometimes comes very close to creating God in the image of self. During a vigorous discussion.one said to me, "it's just a matter of belief...", the implication being that everyone has a different take about any religious issue. This person had formed - from various experiences, with both Christian and non-Christian sources - a belief system. A "belief" that fitted the life, experiences, and personality of this individual.

The Bible seemed to have been made a resource book for proofs that supported their "Belief". Many use the word "spiritual", and apply it to incidents and personal experiences. This type of subjective reasoning seems to be increasing. It is especially flourishing among those who have had some type of negative experience with a church or churches. One could call it The Personality Church, in which the belief system is dictated by the internal persona of the individual.

Under these conditions, the Bible is relegated to only another book. I good book to confirm the personal belief system of the personality convert. Every belief, and philosophy, along with all experience is seen through the prism of persona. And the god of Self is enthroned.

This state of affairs is in reality the results of human nature influenced by the god of this world. He knows the bent of every individual. The mind of humans is his playground. The is the reason we are warned to gird up the loins of our minds, lest we be deceived by the slight of hand of the great deceiver (1 Peter 1:13). In the epistles of the Apostle Peter, he emphasizes right knowledge. Not the world's knowledge, crafted in the image of the carnal mind, but the knowledge found only in Jesus Christ (Philippines 2:5)

Unless Christ's knowledge is being written in our minds, we are open and tempted to seek knowledge that "make life work". And since we live in a world of results orientation, where worldly goals promise success and satisfaction, there is great pressure and temptation to follow the rules that produce immediate results. The results, it is believed, will be success, personal aggrandizements, respect.. If we will play by the world's rules, we are told, we will succeed living by our form of godliness.

The religions of this world, formed in the minds of deceived humanity, will never lead to the living God who made mankind and all things. There is only one true religion. It is revealed today in the Word of God, the Bible. I pray that you never attempt to form God in your image. Originally, we were formed in His likeness, with the purpose of becoming his children. The way to the fulfillment of that purpose is through His religion.

Allow God to form you in His image - through the acceptance of His religion only.

"If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." - James 1:26-27; (2 Peter 3:18)
