As Christians we must have a kind of parallax view In order to grow and endure in our Christian lives. We all must look at our lives differently than those in the world.
We must view our lives on two levels… the most important view is the one we live by the Spirit of Christ that lives deep down in our being and motivates and guides as we surrender to that Spirit.
The other view is on the level of what we physically and mentally utilize in order to function as flesh and blood beings in our physical world.
We must live, in a sense, in two different worlds.
We must view each perception or view of our lives at the same time, each being completely different, yet being only one life in Christ.
It is often a disconcerting experience…the Holy Spirit leads and urges us in one direction, while our nature inclination strives to take a way that is contrary to the way God wants us to go. God has given us the Holy Spirit who anticipates and foreknows every event - even our thoughts - and clarifies and makes clear the road He desires for us to take.
Jesus warned concerning being drawn in two different directions, having our faith divided and headed in two directions at the same time. This leads eventual to what is known as a "double standard".
Either we will serve one and hate the other, or hate the one and serve the other. It is very difficult, not impossible to give the same allegiance to both. Having a spiritual parallax view in our lives can confuse our view as to what we should believe and therefore what we should do in striving to live a Christian life that is focused on Jesus.
Some have misunderstood, or more correctly, allowed the god of this world to continue to strength this element of human nature in their minds and actions. Satan, the god of this world, understands how our natural minds work - even we do not. Of course, the reason we are not aware of this element of human nature is Satan, who established the principle in the garden of Eden. Disobedience to God's way of seeing life and living automatically creates a dual mindedness (subconsciously), approach to every thought, action, judgment, and opinion toward every experience in life.
There is only one solution and defense available to us as Christians: surrender unconditionally to Christ through submission to the urging of the Holy Spirit. This is set in motion by surrender to God, and implemented through heartfelt prayer.
May we surrender to Christ and the working of the Holy Spirit activated by and through prayer. There is an answer to the whole problem if we will take it to God in complete surrender to God through prayer, asking Him to remove the tendency to double mindedness. This is the only way to escape the effect of human nature's exposure to the effects of a parallax mind, and its corrupting manipulation of our minds that slow destruction of our faith in God and His Son, Jesus Christ.
Only Jesus Christ through the working of the Holy Spirit can successfully conquer the human tendency to live a double life: a Parallax life.
