'Christ in You...'

The Way To Pray
Date Posted: March 25, 2018

Why is it so difficult for pray...at last for some...and perhaps for many?

It seems to vary from person to person. One may say that it is their delight that they look forward to as often as possible. Others claim it is an agony, and they must force themselves. They say that it is fearful to pray because God is so great and powerful and they feel they are so sinful and unworthy. They perceive God will condemn, or even destroy them because they know they have sinned. If not in actions, in their thoughts.

In view of the wide spectrum of feelings and subsequent responses, how should be feel when we attempt to talk to God and Jesus Christ? The issue is so fearsome, it becomes tempting to not even attempt to come before the Almighty God. Should our first concern be quantity, or quality regarding our prayer life? Perhaps some would say they should be equal in preference and length.

Notice Jesus’ answer when His disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray:

“Pray, then, in this way: Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven. ‘Give us this day our [daily bread. And forgive us our, as we have forgiven our debtors [letting go of both the wrong and the resentment]. ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.]’” - Matthew 6:9-13

Notice to whom this sample prayer is addressed. Jesus is answering a question from His disciples…not unbelievers. The most important issue in our prayers is that we should approach Him in complete openness. We live in utter and complete openness to God whether we believe….whether we believe in Him or not. Therefore, to Him, we are already an “open book”. God is not offended by our doubts, or our feelings.

He is not offended by anything we HONESTLY pour out before Him. After all, He already knows before we open our mouth or think a thought. He foreknows all things about us long before we express anything to Him in prayer. He hears before we speak or think. God and Jesus Christ are not “out to get us”, in a negative sense. No…He is out to save us from ourselves. And it must seem to Him at times that even though we know about God, and want His approval, we really do not trust Him.

If some of these issues are true about you, the first place to start is to know who He is and what He is really like. There is a book in the Bible that tells us what God is like. But first we should realize that, since He is the maker and sustainer of ALL THINGS…things seen and unseen by us. In view of the wide spectrum of feelings and subsequent responses, how should be feel when we attempt to talk to God and Jesus Christ? The issue is so fearsome for some, it becomes tempting to simply not even attempt to come before the Almighty God.

Of course this would be the worst thing anyone could do.

The Apostle John wrote some words in the Bible that have served to inspire and lead many to know God in a complete context, and cause them to WANT to pray, talk to Him and obey Him and to love Him:

“Beloved, let us [unselfishly] love and seek the best for one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves [others] is born of God and knows God [through personal experience]. The one who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love. [He is the originator of love, and it is an enduring attribute of His nature.]

By this the love of God was displayed in us, in that God has sent His [One and] only begotten Son [the One who is truly unique, the only One of His kind] into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation [that is, the atoning sacrifice, and the satisfying offering] for our sins [fulfilling God’s requirement for justice against sin and placating His wrath].” - 1 John 4:7-10 (AMP)

Who would not long to know, to talk to, to pray to, and live for, in all trials, and fears. He knows us and loves us more than human words can ever express. He loves you and me so much. He longs to hear from us in any way that we are able to talk - silently or vocally. He NEVER judges us in our prayers. He was human once. He understands…and He loves MORE than we ever imagine

Just talk to Him in any way that is honest - no matter what you say or feel. He hears. And regardless...He longs to hear from you!

He loves you...!
