Many today agree with the gospel.They see nothing particularly bad about it. But, as someone recently told me, they just never considered it to be for them. Some even explain their indecision as truly wanting to believe.Their admission that they agree with it tends to confirm their calling, and that they are enabled to receive saving faith.
The Father may be drawing them to Christ, but they sense that it may cost more than are they are willing to pay, whatever that may be. Because of many issues in their life, they will not decide to believe. They are among the many that the Father draws to His Son, but because of the lack of the will to believe, they are not chosen.
The Father draws them, they must exercise their will to believe.
But why do many not believe the Gospel? Some say that are not against it; its just not for them. Is the reason the lack of suffecient understanding of the Gospel? Is it the "cares of this world" choking out their belief? Is it their upbringing, background, life experiences, the opinions of others? The list of possibilities seems endless.
Here we come face to face with the soveriegnty of God. The simple truth is, God must grant belief in Jesus Christ. In many ways belief is a synomym for faith. The Greek word is the same for both belief and faith. The context determines the most appropriate rendering, and the one easiest to illustrate the purpose of the writer. Therefore, both belief and faith must be granted according to the purpose and calling of God.
Therefore, one can will to believe, but the willingness is accepted according to the divine appointment of the Father (John 6:37,44). When one comes to Christ, He will not refused, but will grant the one who comes to Him by the leading of the Father the gift of faith - the belief - leading to repentance, and the receiving of the Holy Spirit, becoming a child of God (Ephesians 2:8).
But herein is also a mystery, an enigma of the wisdom and authority of an infinite God that finite minds find very difficult to understand. The calling and gift of God is all of Him, and yet we are accountable for the decisions of our own minds and will. Regardless of one's response to God's calling, He never chnages His mind:
"For God's gifts and His call are irrevocable. [He never withdraws them when once they are given, and He does not change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call.]" (Romans 11:29 AMP)
The bottom line is, if you in any way agree with the Gospel of Jesus Christ; if you are in any way drawn to it;, a decision is made by not making a decision. God will not withdraw His call. Therefore, you will have to stand before Him and give an answer for your lack of decision.
Why not respond to your divine appointment - use your will to believe...
"All whom My Father gives (entrusts) to Me will come to Me; and the one who comes to Me I will most certainly not cast out [I will never, no never, reject one of them who comes to Me]. For I have come down from heaven not to do My own will and purpose but to do the will and purpose of Him Who sent Me. And this is the will of Him Who sent Me, that I should not lose any of all that He has given Me, but that I should give new life and raise [them all] up at the last day." - John 6:37-39 (AMP)
