Blueprint #14: Rebekah, Isaac's Bride
Date Posted: January 9, 2007

(Paper dolls, a paper clip, and a magnet show us along with Eliezer searching for Rebekah that God will lead us to His plan if we seek Him.)

The Lord gave us the blueprint of His Word to architect our family on Jesus Christ.

Going through the Bible with your family…

Weekly Scripture:
Genesis 24

Story:
“Rebekah, Isaac’s Bride”

Application:
The Lord longs to give us His wisdom if we ask Him for it.

Summary:
Abraham desired for Isaac to get married, but not to one of the Canaanites who worshipped idols. So he sent his servant, Eliezer to Mesopotamia to find a wife for Isaac from Abraham’s kin. Eliezer prayed for help in choosing the right bride for Isaac. He requested that God would allow the woman to not only retrieve water from the well of Eliezer when asked, but would also offer to draw water for his camels. Rebekah was that kind and considerate woman. Eliezer gave her gifts from his master and discovered she was related to Abraham. He thanked the Lord. Rebekah’s family invited Eliezer to stay with them. They knew the Lord had led Eliezer to find Rebekah for Isaac and gave the blessing for her to return to the land of Abraham with him. Isaac immediately loved Rebekah and married her.

Focus:
To teach the children that the Lord desires to guide them if they will seek His wisdom.

Finding Christ:
Isaac is seen as a type of Christ as the bridegroom in this and Rebekah is typed as the Church in the bride role.

Live the Lesson:
Let the children help you make paper dolls tonight.

Go to Making Friends http://www.makingfriends.com/friends/f+bible.htm and print out several paper dolls to make into “bible” female characters. Write the name Rebekah on the back of one of them. Also make one “biblical” male paper doll. You will want to print out the dolls on cardstock and possibly their clothing as well. Take a paper clip and put it on the one to become Eliezer. Take a magnet and write God on a piece of paper and tape it to the magnet.

Now take a coffee cup and put a little water in it for the well. Put the females in various places on the table around the well. Have Eliezer pray to the Lord to lead him to the right woman. Now Eliezer walks close to each woman. As he draws near to Rebekah, have God (the magnet ) come close to Rebekah and draw Eliezer to her.

Tell the children this is how God will work with us if we will diligently seek His wisdom through prayer, reading the Word, and seeking the counsel of our parents and elders at our church. God will draw us into His plan for us as we seek Him.

Memory Verse:
“And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:6

Prayer:
Dear Lord, please help us to seek Your wisdom and know Your will for our lives. Help us to keep seeking Your plan until we find it.

Living the Life:
This week give your children examples of times you prayed for wisdom and saw the Lord controlling circumstances to lead you into His plan.
