God's Words For US

In my reading, I happened upon a fact I hadn’t realized before. In Exodus, God instructs Moses that He has a very special name, “I AM WHO I AM”. (Ex.3:14a) God then goes on to advise this hesitant emissary, “This is what you are to say to the Israelites, ‘I AM has sent you’.”
During my freshman year of college, I took an introductory religion class. One thing I remember from that class is the early Hebrews did not say God’s name. They wrote the letters YHWH that have become the name Yahweh. What I learned this week is Yahweh comes ( Click for more )
Thanksgiving is a holiday we celebrate on the fourth Thursday of November. We, as a nation spend time preparing and or eating a ‘traditional’ dinner. During the day we may find some time to reflect on things for which we are thankful.
However, thanksgiving encompasses much more. As God’s children we, on a regular basis, are to express gratitude to God for all He has done for us. God’s word has several scriptural passages that speak of giving thanks to God for His presence, His miraculous deeds, and His gifts to us and the people He sends into our lives ( Click for more )
What does it mean to have a thankful heart? I have come to believe that we need to have a thankful heart in order to grow in the Lord.
A Humbled Heart
Can we appreciate an act of God and not be humbled by that one deed? Jesus Christ, by his very willingness to go to death on the cross for our sins, humbled Himself before God. (Philippians 2:5-8) We have written evidence that Jesus wrestled in prayer over this.
The Apostle wrote often of his life belonging to Christ. One passage I am falling in love with is Acts 27:23: “Last night an angel of God whose I am ( Click for more )
“Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.” Psalm 95:2 (NIV)
One of the first things small children are taught by their parents is the phrase, “Thank you.”
When they learn those words, the parents introduce “You’re welcome” into their vocabulary.
When a child is a preschooler and he or she receives a gift or a favor, the parents may have to remind the children by asking, “What do you say?”
As God’s children, we learn to express our thanks to Him in many different ( Click for more )
“Fear not, for I am with you, be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, yes I will help you, I will uphold
You with My righteous right hand. For I, the Lord your God,
Will hold your right hand. Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’”
(Isaiah 41:10,13 NKJV)
As humans, we sometimes have fears. Some of us chose not to voice them to others because we think might be looked at as being silly. Small children are afraid of the dark. Certain adults, as children, got scared of storms and have that fear with them their ( Click for more )
“Do not worry about tomorrow.
It has enough troubles of it’s own”
Matthew 6:34
Everyone talks about it, but no one does anything to change it. Some people call the issue “just plain nerves” I speak of stress.
Several years ago, when I took classes from a community college, I heard stress was an element found in all activities. There is good stress–eustress and bad stress–distress. Eustress is the oohs and aahs we experience when we watch fireworks celebrations. Distress is the feeling we have when we hear bad news. ( Click for more )
