Keeping God In Mind
Date Posted: May 4, 2006

It was Jesus who stated in Matthew 22: 37, "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." Have you ever thought about how the command to love God with all of your mind applies to your life and that of your children?

The Word of God makes it plain that whatsoever we do as God’s people must be done to and for God’s glory. When Christians enter into an educational pursuit of any kind, they must recognize that this exercise is both intellectual and spiritual. To elevate any subject or study to the point where it becomes an end in itself causes that study to be a form of idolatry. It also is an act that falls short of the standard set by Christ who commanded His followers to love God with all of their minds.

When God’s people follow the marching orders contained in 2Corinthians, chapter ten to cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, while they bring every thought into the obedience of Christ, they are living out their love for Christ by consciously endeavoring to glorify God as the chief end of their thought lives. How easy it is to forget that not one tiny spec of our minds, or our lives, belongs to us. We have been bought with a price, and our lives, as well as our minds are not our own.

For this reason, it is imperative for Christian parents to understand that their children’s minds were created to glorify God. To permit a child’s mind to be trained away from Christ, therefore, robs God of the glory that He alone deserves. It also robs, I might add, the student from the awesome privilege of studying subject matter in such a way as to see the majesty and true significance of God’s handiwork. It is only as parents permit and encourage their children to study in the light of God’s revealed truth, that they will be able to see the light of God’s majesty and power reflected in the world around them.

Satan and his followers are in the business of trying to rob God of as much glory as possible. What better place to focus their attack than in the very minds of those who claim the name of Christ? The Evil One would like nothing better than to beguile professing Christians into believing that they have no duty to love and glorify God as they engage in educational or intellectual pursuits. Satan surely knows something that many Christian parents today should know; namely, that it is in the battleground of the mind where all of the key battles are fought, and either won or lost.

The critical question that Christian parents must answer is; how long will I continue to permit my children’s minds to be under the influence of educators and school systems that are intent on excluding the Lord Jesus Christ from my youngster’s thought life? As the Good Book says in Psalm one, "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night."

Parents who take seriously the duty they have to guard their children’s minds and hearts will not rest until they have them in a home school or Christian school that utilizes a Christ-centered curriculum. Only a Christian school can encourage your child to love God with their whole mind.
