In the Word

The Word Becomes Flesh
Date Posted: March 3, 2009

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.' " And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him. John 1:14-18 NKJV

Aren’t you glad that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us? That fact is good news in itself, but the great news is that He came towing a U-Haul trailer full of grace and truth. Unless Jesus had come, we would have been stuck with Satan’s condemnation and falsehood.

Before Jesus came all we had was the law. The law wasn’t a bad thing, but it became the ammunition for Satan’s condemnation because we sons of Adam and daughters of Eve continue to do 75 mph in heaven’s 50 mph speed limit. Because Jesus brought grace, He pays our speeding ticket. Because He brought truth, we know about dangerous turns ahead for which we need to slow down.

Take time to think back over the past year and thank God for the grace and truth you’ve been given over the last year. If you can’t remember any, you’re not thinking hard enough. You probably don’t have to go past the last week.
