And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7 NIV
The word "peace" in this verse is the Greek work "eirene" - which when translated means "the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, of whatsoever sort that is."
I am going to have surgery in the morning. Right now, more than anything, I long for "peace." I've been nervous, anxious and restless. I’ve had a few weeks to think about it – which probably wasn’t the best thing. It’s given me more time to worry. It’s also given others more time to share their horror stories.
In the last few days I’ve spent a lot of time praying. I’ve prayed for my doctor. I’ve prayed for all those involved in the surgery. I’ve prayed for my husband who will have to put up with me during my recovery. I’ve prayed for my employer and my clients.
And then it hit me - I need to pray for peace - the kind of peace that transcends all understanding.
This kind of peace only comes from God.
He is the source of peace.
The God of peace be with you all. Amen.
Romans 15:33 NIV
God has answered my prayer. He has given me peace. I know no matter what happens, my salvation is assured and I can face whatever comes my way through the power of Jesus Christ.
