Sufficient Grace

Hearts Desire
Date Posted: June 17, 2007
Psalm 37:4 says Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. He will give us the desires of our heart even when we cannot identify those desires. Yesterday, I found out I was not selected for the job I so desperately wanted. The setting and salary were unbelievably generous and the job duties could have been molded from my resume. Not only did I have extensive experience in everything they were looking for, I have proven to be an expert with the tasks. Truly, I was perfect for the job. So many people prayed for me that I was confident that this job was God’s will for the next chapter in my life. So what happened? I can’t imagine God wanting me to stay at my current job, which is draining the life out of me. As I thought of the things I dislike about it, I realized those things would be required in the job I had applied for, the job I was so disappointed in not getting. You see, God knows us better than we know ourselves. He knew this was not the perfect job for me. Sure, the money would have been good and I definitely would’ve enjoyed the flexibility, but I would have been settling. My heart’s desire is writing and Bible study, which would not have been part of my responsibilities. I tend to not pursue the desires because I don’t know how… yet my heart clings to them. God put those desires in my heart for a reason. Money and jobs are temporary; heart’s desires last for eternity.
