Do Not Throw Away This Essential Key
Date Posted: March 9, 2020

We are reading in Isaiah Chapter 42, and at verse 4 there is this tremendous assurance that the work of this Servant will never fail. Jesus will not falter.

Jesus will not give up even when going through his own trials - even when crucified and lying in that tomb, Jesus was still right in the very centre of the Will of His Father.

Jesus will never be discouraged - even when people are betraying Him and denying Him three times in one night.

Jesus would go through with all that His Father had sent Him to do.

Jesus knows what it means to be a bruised reed – a smouldering wick.

All this work of God will continue until JUSTICE is established - and we are called to co-operate with God in this massive task.

One day that will happen - don't doubt that. Jesus Christ will do it.

God shows Isaiah, that He had called Israel to be a LIGHT to the Gentiles, but Israel had failed God - and now God is going to come and do something new - and He is going to have come Himself and do it – this is HIS MISSION.

The nation of Israel should have served God in certain positive ways - but they were not able to - so when this Servant comes He will do these things - and Jesus did.

He is going to open the eyes of the blind - free captives from prison - and release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.

Jesus came and took these words of Isaiah and did exactly that.

The anointed One brings so much, and can do so much.

In December, we completed a two month study of the “God of the Unexpected” in our daily readings. Have we not found that throughout our Christian lives – God comes and surprises us in the most unexpected and surprising ways.

God was going to do something completely new - but before He did it He announced it to His People.

“The Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing His plan to His servants the prophets” – declares Amos, in Chapter 3 of his prophecy.

Jesus himself speaks about the prophets being the key to knowledge – in Luke Chapter 11 – but the religious authorities had thrown the key away.

In Matthew, Luke, and John, Jesus is referred to as the prophet – or the great prophet, and yet man resists or rejects this prophet.

Jesus is prophet, priest and king – he is Saviour and Lord. Do not throw away this or any other essential key.

O Church – do not throw away the key – do not throw away or ignore or neglect the Word of God.

Verse 6 – This servant will also be a covenant for the people – and a light for the Gentiles – this is more than a covenant handed down via Moses.

The former covenant could be broken – this one, Jesus Christ, can never be broken – never.

Verse 10 - Isaiah says - They will be singing to the Lord a new song - they will be praising God for His Words and His Works - they will be rejoicing at what He is saying and what He is doing.

Verse 15 – Do you need a word on ‘Climate Change’ – read these three indications. God can also be a God on the warpath. If Noah were to be preparing for The Flood today I would guess there would be protestations and angry demonstrations against such a thought – but it happened – and Jesus spoke about it during his ministry.

Verse 18 – He comes to heal eyes and ears. Jesus took these words and fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy.

Verse 22 – God’s people had been plundered – a thief had appeared.

Jesus came and fulfilled all this right down to the smallest detail.

“Lord God – You have given us so many keys – help us never to throw away these keys – and where people have rejected these keys may they have the grace to go and retrieve them while they have the ability. Gracious Lord Jesus, have mercy – forgive us our sin – and lead us by the Holy Spirit, as He equips and guides. Amen”
