"He's a snappy dresser." "He looks very dapper." "He has that GQ look." These phrases are associated with men and how they look in their clothes. The idea of a snappy dresser could be a man in a worsted wool blazer in a bright summer color with a freshly pressed and starched dress shirt. Someone in a tweed jacket and a pair of corduroys might look very dapper. A black tee shirt worn under a double breasted pinstripe suit could elicit the "GQ" comment.

Books have been written about it as well as nurmerous articles. People make their living designing and fitting clothing to make men look sharp, chic and successful. The whole man is usually the target with some designers even giving attention to the proper headwear. All of this to help a man look a certain way to please a certain person or group, or maybe just himself.

The bottom line is, with something that is important you want to look your best. Whether it's that first time in the boardroom, a special gathering of high school buddies, or a night out with that special someone. Or maybe it's a first time meeting with someone who could completely change your life. After all, you only get one chance to make a first impression.

So, how do we look to others on that chance first meeting? You know the one. You've just met someone who just might be a "prospect" for your church. Suddenly something happens that catches you off guard. Something completely unexpected. Perhaps it's someone bumping into you while you're talking and causing you to spill your coffee. The next few moments could determine where that person you're with might spend eternity. Your reaction could make or break this one time opportunity for Christ.

If you're properly clothed there is no problem. "Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in licentiousness and lewdness, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts." Romans 13:12-14 Clothes do make the man. If we're going to step out into the world for the Lord, we need to dress the part.
