Devotional: 24th of Adar

A large crowd of cohanim [priests] were becoming obedient to the faith (Acts 6:7).

Leviticus 13 contains very detailed instructions for the priests of Israel in diagnosing leprosy. After a thorough investigation, if someone was found to have this terrible skin disease, he was forced to live outside of mainstream society all the days of his life.

Leviticus 14 tells the priests how to determine if someone has been healed of this ailment, and if so, what the proper procedure for reinstating him into the community was. However, there is a missing piece. There is no indication of "how" to get healed. In the fifteen hundred years from the giving of the Torah to the coming of Yeshua, there is no biblical evidence that there was anyone other than Moses's sister Miryam (Numbers 12:13-15) and Na'aman the Syrian (2 Kings 5) who was ever healed of leprosy.

When Yeshua came, this changed dramatically. Not only did he and his disciples cleanse lepers (Matthew 10:8; 11:5), but the healed lepers were instructed to show themselves to the priests in observance of Leviticus 14 (Matthew 8:2-4; Luke 17:12-14). Imagine the impact. From never being called on to deal with healed lepers, the priests were suddenly swamped with requests. God's Word came to life and took on new meaning. Is it any wonder that, as today's Scripture passage says, "a large crowd of cohanim were becoming obedient to the faith"?

Yeshua is the one who fills in the missing pieces and by doing so, causes faith to rise up in our hearts.

...recognize that God makes no mistakes. Even if I don't have all the answers, Yeshua holds the missing pieces.
