Devotional: 27th of Av

We are now going up to Yerushalayim (Mark 10:33).

Have you ever noticed that Yeshua always goes "up" to Yerushalayim (Jerusalem)? Even when he is going south, he goes "up" to Yerushalayim. Why? Yerushalayim is high up on the Judean hills. But more than that, it's the city of God. You never go down to God. You always go up, so the journey to Yerushalayim was given a special name—aliyah (going up). Thus, whenever Jewish people return to live in Israel it is said they are making aliyah. They're going up.

In the same way, if you're born again, you're a child of Abraham and that means your life is to be an aliyah. The direction of your life is not to the east or west or toward money or success. The direction of your life is aliyah—going up to God. He calls you not to the most comfortable life, but to the life of highest good.

Going up may require more effort and determination, but it's a glorious journey and the view at the top is breathtaking! Every day we're given choices as to where we will place our next step. Don't compromise. Always choose to step up, for that's the direction of aliyah. Don't be afraid of heights. If you go for the top, you'll be amazed at what happens to your life. You're going up. You're making aliyah.

...take the higher step, for my life is now an aliyah.
