Devotional: 25th of Cheshvan

I will put my Torah within them and write it on their hearts (Jeremiah 31:33 [32]).

Perhaps you've heard the criticism that states: "Since we're no longer under the Law but under grace, Messianic Judaism is legalism."While it is true that we are no longer under the Law (in the Romans 6 context), neither has the Law been done away with. In Matthew 5:17, Yeshua says that he did not come "to abolish [the Law] but to complete" it. Today, under the New Covenant, our relationship to the Law has changed. No longer is it written on tablets of stone but on our very own hearts, that we might both intimately know the Law and desire to obey it.

Before I trusted in Messiah, I had a habit of going into the grocery store, pocketing some delectable snack and walking out—without paying for it! One week after I accepted Yeshua, I went to the local market and, without really thinking about it, grabbed a can of nuts, shoved it in my pocket, and walked out of the store.

I wasn't out of the market five minutes before I heard a voice inside of me, saying, "You shall not steal." Though I didn't yet know the Scriptures, I felt the conviction of sin in my heart. Eventually I repented. The Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) had written God's Law upon my heart. What is our relationship to the Law? It is written on our hearts. All we need to do is listen and obey.

...obey the Law of God, which he has written upon my heart by his Spirit.
