Devotional: 25th of Nisan
Elohi! Elohi! L'mah sh'vaktani? (which means, "My God! My God! Why have you deserted me?") (Mark 15:34)
At the height of the pain and torture of crucifixion, Yeshua cried out a meditation from the Word of God: "My God! My God! Why have you deserted me?" Contrary to the understanding of many, Yeshua was not admitting a loss of faith in uttering these words. Rather, he was, in a very Jewish way, indicating his meditation on the whole text of Psalm 22—;a Messianic passage—by quoting the first verse. Yeshua knew that the Psalm spoke of God's faithfulness as it stated, "In you our ancestors put their trust; they trusted, and you rescued them.... For he has not despised or abhorred the poverty of the poor; he did not hide his face from him but listened to his cry" (Psalm 22:4[5], 24[25]).
The Lord will never desert us. How can we be sure of this in our hour of trial? By meditating on the promises of HaShem (God; literally, "the Name"), even as Yeshua did. Then we will be as prepared as he was to carry the tzlav (cross).
...meditate on God's promises so that my faith will be prepared to withstand life's trials and the temptations of the Adversary.
