Devotional: 2nd of Shevat

Weren't ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found coming back to give glory to God except this foreigner? (Luke 17:17)

Yeshua passed through a village on his final journey to Jerusalem and encountered ten men with tzara'at (various forms of skin disease). According to the Torah, once a priest determined that someone had tzara'at, the person must remain outside the settlements of Israel, crying out, "Unclean! unclean!" (Leviticus 13:45-46) Similarly, these ten men stood far off and cried out to Yeshua for mercy.

Yeshua heard their cry and then sent them in faith to the priests for examination. En route, all ten were cleansed, but only one—a foreigner from Samaria— returned to thank Yeshua. To him, Yeshua said, "Your trust has saved you" (Luke 17:19). They all trusted Yeshua enough to start on their way to the priests. Only one, however, had a faith that was acceptable to Yeshua. Isaiah calls us all unclean. Like the ten,we stand far off from God and his redeemed people. Yeshua cleanses and restores us, but do we respond with thanks? All ten men received great blessing, but only the Samaritan had the faith that Messiah seeks.

As we see all he has done for us, let us open our mouths to give him thanks!

...recognize and thank God for all he has done for me, especially for the gift of salvation in Messiah Yeshua.
