Devotional: 9th of Sivan

There is a remnant, chosen by [God's] grace (Romans 11:5).

It has been said that truth is never determined by a majority vote. Similarly, it has never been "the moral majority," but rather the holy minority, through whom God has accomplished his plan and purpose. As Jewish believers, we must recognize that we have a special role to play as the remnant among our people Israel. My grandfather, Fred Kendall, began a ministry of sharing the gospel with the Jewish people and called it Israel's Remnant. People used to come into the storefront looking for pieces of carpeting from the Holy Land!

One aspect of being part of a remnant is that you need to be visible. You need to be different. The remnant is distinguishable from the whole, but it can only exist by standing out. Some of our Messianic brothers and sisters would much rather blend in and be invisible. Some seek to blend into the rest of Israel by hiding their lights under a bushel. They never let anyone know of their faith in Yeshua and so fail in their responsibility as part of the remnant. Others seek to blend in to the rest of their church, foregoing their Jewish distinctive. These, too, fail to fulfill their responsibilities as part of the remnant.

As Messianic Jews, we must hold our Jewishness and our "Jesusness" in full view, for all the world to see. Only then can we truly fulfill our calling as "a remnant, chosen by [God's] grace."

...look for ways to affirm my faith in Yeshua and my Jewish identity in him.
