Devotional: 22nd of Sivan

Give a reasoned answer to anyone who asks you to explain the hope you have in you (1 Peter 3:15).

When I first came to know the Lord in 1970, I was a freshman at the University of Cincinnati. The Lord supernaturally moved me to begin to study the Scriptures a minimum of two hours a day— along with my other studies, no less! At the same time, the Lord opened a door for our small group of Messianic Jewish students on campus to have interaction with an Orthodox Jewish group. Thus began a two-year dialogue on the Messiah that changed my life.

It is one thing to hand someone a tract with a hundred Messianic prophecies on it and quite another to sit down with religious Jews (and, occasionally, rabbis) and go through these same passages, verse by verse, in Hebrew and English. I had never really studied these remarkable passages, much less in their original Hebrew, and now I found myself debating them with Orthodox Jews! I knew I had to study these passages, and soon! Because of the research I did and the subsequent discussions I had with these Jewish students, my faith became stronger. I now knew that Yeshua was the only person who could possibly have fulfilled all of these predictions about the Messiah.

By studying the Messianic prophecies, we come into a deeper faith that Yeshua is the Messiah of Israel. We also become more confident in sharing our Messianic faith with our own people.

...study the Messianic passages, know them thoroughly, and boldly share my faith with everyone who asks me.
