Devotional: 28th of Sivan

The foxes have holes, and the birds flying about have nests, but the Son of Man has no home of his own (Matthew 8:20).

When Yeshua was immersed in the Yarden (Jordan), a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; I am well pleased with him" (Matthew 3:17). The voice identified Yeshua as the Son of God. Later, the crowds identified Yeshua as Ben-David (Son of David). Yet Yeshua most often referred to himself as Ben-Adam (Son of Man).

In the above Scripture, Yeshua said that Ben-Adam had nowhere to lay his head. "Ben-Adam" was a glorious Messianic title (Daniel 7:13; Matthew 24:30), but it also described the Messiah as humble, as one who fully identified with the humanity he came to save, even the lowliest and most rejected among men. As Ben-Adam, Yeshua declared that when he returns in glory, he will judge the nations according to their treatment of the naked, sick, hungry, and imprisoned. When Yeshua returns, he will say to them, "Yes! I tell you that whenever you did these things for one of the least important of these brothers of mine, you did them to me!" (Matthew 25:40)

The Messiah is Ben-Adam, a glorious figure who takes on our humanity so fully that he records our service to others, especially when it is to the poor and needy, on his own account.

...recognize Yeshua in the hurting and needy people I encounter, and treat them accordingly.
