Devotional: 2nd of Teves

While it was still dark, Yeshua got up, left, went away to a lonely spot and stayed there praying (Mark 1:35).

Yeshua's life of prayer is a marvelous example to us! Being raised in a family of Messianic leaders, I remember that prayer was strongly emphasized by my parents. My father was a man of the night seasons. I would come down in the middle of the night to get a nosh (snack) from the refrigerator and would find him in the living room praying. My mother would rise at 5:00 every morning in order to have two good hours with the Lord before the kids woke up. These examples made a deep impression on me.

In a similar manner, Yeshua's prayer life profoundly impacted his disciples. On this occasion, he had been out ministering all day. He was physically and spiritually tired. He rose hours before dawn, left the city, and found a place where he could be alone with the Father. Hours later, his disciples found him. He was refreshed, restored, renewed, and ready to go.

If Yeshua needed to pray, then how much more do we need to pray? We need to learn from Yeshua's life and develop a life of prayer. If we give God our best time and are dedicated to prayer, then we will be empowered and led by the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit) every day. During this Feast of Dedication, let us dedicate ourselves to prayer.

...make a commitment to pray every day. Help me, O Lord, to become like Yeshua and develop a pattern of prayer in my life.
