Devotional: 18th of Teves

Make your requests known to God by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6).

Since childhood, I wanted to be a millionaire. I worked diligently toward that goal for most of my life and, as planned, went to college to earn a degree in business administration. During my second year, I had an encounter with the Lord and immediately felt a strong call to full-time ministry. I fought this call for many months, knowing that it meant giving up my dreams of immense wealth. Finally, however, I gave in, switching my major to Judaism and Early Christianity.

After graduation, I was ready for ministry but no doors opened to me. Instead, I began driving a bread truck, delivering Cohen's Kosher Rye Bread. Every day, I would drive my route, complaining to the Lord about what I had given up for him! One day, in my haste, I forgot to close the door latches on the bread trays and, when I slammed on the brakes to avoid going through a red light, all the bread came sliding forward on top of me. That's when God said, "You need to learn how to deliver physical bread with joy before you will be ready to deliver spiritual bread to anyone!" My attitude immediately changed. I began to praise him and soon I was in fulltime ministry.

Are you complaining about your circumstances? Begin praising him right now!

...begin to praise God in the midst of difficulties and make my needs known to him with thanksgiving. I will focus upon him and not on the problem.
