10 Minutes Peace
by Susan McGrath
Do you ever feel like something great is waiting just around the corner?
If you can only get past the drudgery of today, tomorrow will be exciting. You will ooze beauty and confidence from every pore. Your family will put their dirty clothes in the hamper and not on the floor. Well, we can dream, can't we?
But that feeling of anticipation is just there sometimes. Perhaps it's longing for a different setting. Wanting a better life. Just hoping for something new and exciting. But it's there.
This time of year it grows as the days grow longer and the flowers taller. It speaks with a quiet yet urgent voice inside."Take that step," it prods. "Give it a chance. Apply for that job."
"Go meet your new neighbor. Start that workout program you've been watching on video for months."
Is there always something around the corner. Most probably. But the only way to find it is to explore. Peek around slowly at first if you must. Say a prayer for strength. Or jump out boldly!
I believe God has many things in store for us that we never quite realize because we stay on the safe, comfortable side of life.
Who might we meet or share Christ with if we take that detour in life. (Not a detour in faith or principles, just side trip in life.)
As Christians, we know what is just around the corner for us in the next life. 2 Timothy 4:8 says,"Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day -- and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing."
Let's not forget, though, the delights along the way. The intoxicatingly sweet flowers, literal and figurative, and the richness of conversation and friendship. New experiences. Exciting people. God has all these waiting for us if we but wait upon Him.
