So David said to Michal, (his wife who belittled him and his worship of God), "It was before the Lord, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the Lord. 2 Samuel 6:21

Cure yourself of the condition of bothering about how you look to other people. Be concerned only...with the idea God has of you. Miguel de Unamuno 1864-1936

(David’s response to Michal’s criticism of his undignified public worship of God) I will be more lightly esteemed than this and will be humble in my own eyes. 2 Samuel 6:22

Never, for sake of peace and quiet, deny your own experience or convictions. Dag Hammarskjöld 1905–1961

Now it came about when the king lived in his house, and the Lord had given him rest on every side from all his enemies.. 2 Samuel 7:1

In place of our exhaustion and spiritual fatigue, God will give us rest –(for a season). All He asks is that we come to Him...that we spend a while thinking about Him, meditating on Him, talking to Him, listening in silence, occupying ourselves with Him--totally and thoroughly lost in the hiding place of His presence. Charles (Chuck) Swindoll, Insight for Living

(David wanted to build a temple for the ark, so Nathan, a prophet, friend and counselor said) Go, do all that is in your heart, for the Lord is with you. But . that night the word of the Lord came to Nathan saying (building the temple was not for David to do) 2 Samuel 7:2-4

Advice given with pleasing rapidity may lead to regret if not readdressed against God’s light.

(God said to David through Nathan).did I ever say to any of the leaders I commanded to shepherd Israel, ‘Why haven't you built me a house of cedar?' 2 Samuel 7:7

Peace and rest in the Lord mark the Christian life. Unnecessary stirring, planning, and action, even with the most noble motives, weakens our ability to serve Him to our utmost.
