Can God Get Glory from My Life?

"Don't Lose Sight of the Mission."

In Acts chapters 10,11 there is a wonderful story about Peter converting Gentiles and baptizing them. Upon his arrival back in Jerusalem, he’s criticized for carrying out the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19). Have you ever caught yourself prescreening God’s applicants? Maybe prescreen is a hard word. But just as the Jerusalem Christians were guilty then, we are guilty now of deciding of who should come to Christ. You do know it’s your God-given duty to evangelize and tell all people about the good news of Christ, right? Have you ever found yourself being selective with whom you share the Good News? That is what the Jerusalem believers were guilty of back then. They were disappointed about the gospel being shared with non-Jews! I find it very interesting that this criticism came from the body of believers. But they had lost sight of the mission. You see just a couple of chapters ago in the same book (Acts 9:31) it says that the believers “walked in the fear of God and the comfort of the Holy Spirit”. However, since the persecution hadn’t really began for them or at least had been suspended with Paul’s conversion on the Damascus road there was a false sense of peace that came over them. I say false because Satan never rests and neither should we as believers. We have to always stay on guard and be alert for his attacks. The Apostle Paul was aware of this. That is why he wrote to Timothy in 1Tim the first chapter warning him what to guard against and expressing the gratitude that should be felt to entrusted with the mission of preaching the gospel. We have to realize that as Christians, we have been entrusted to display to the world a wonderful gift—second to no other that they have ever seen. We must continue to focus on bringing souls into the kingdom of Christ, just as Satan continues to focus on bringing death and destruction upon humanity. It just so happened that his attack was on the body of believers at Jerusalem in those days. Although I hate that it happens like this, often we are not united together as a body of believers unless there is some type of crisis. For example, as a nation after 9/11 there were countless prayer vigils. And after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, believers united to give aid and support to the victims of those tragedies. But yet, I am guilty of not witnessing to Mr. Joe Blow when I go and check my PO Box daily. Too often we can become so accustomed to the routine of life, that even as Christians we forget that Jesus asked--no, commanded us to preach and teach to all nations the Good News of his death, burial and resurrection. If not us, then who? Ok. I know we have missionaries traveling the world specifically with that purpose. But we also have plenty of “un-churched” people right up under our noses in our own neighborhood. So this week make sure you go out of your way to tell at least one person about the good news of Jesus Christ. Challenge yourself that in the next conversation you have, you will mention the name of Jesus Christ, Savior of the World!

Lord, teach and show me how to be more vocal about you. You’ve done so much for me and I want to courageously share with others how you’ve blessed me. Help me not to lose sight of why you came to die for the world. Amen
