Can God Get Glory from My Life?

“Handling the influence that your dreams have on others is in part getting comfortable with the real you.”

I remember that not long after I made the decision to leave my job to go after what God had for me I shared it with my men’s group. Boy was that a mistake! I was met with a lukewarm response that I felt was mainly criticism. I felt like Joseph must have felt when he retold his dreams back to his brothers. Sometimes it can be hard to share what God has given you to people close to you because it is just meant for you. What do I mean by that? Well, Joseph’s purpose was really to preserve a world from dying 20+ years later from a terrible famine that would strike the land. God knew that back when he was delivering sandwiches to his brothers and running errands for his father Jacob. And although God was giving him bits of that purpose through his dreams at night, his eagerness to share and find out what that meant was shared in the wrong arena and therefore eventually caused him to be hated, despised, sold into slavery and thought for dead. Man, if that is where dreams from God can get you then I say no thanks!!! Is that what you are thinking? I hope not, because the other side of the coin is this. Joseph’s brothers and even his father Jacob were preserved during that famine because of Joseph. And quite often God’s purpose in our lives involves people that hate or despise us the most. They may benefit directly from what God has you to do. Just the fact that you are in their lives is a blessing—and they don’t even notice it! Why? Because God gave you the dream—not them! They may not understand your purpose and therefore they'll reject, despise, and slander you. Don’t let this discourage you or deter you from what God has shown you in your dreams. All dreams are not meant to be shared. Sometimes not even with those that you feel are closest to you. Keep your faith and trust in the God that gave you the dream and don’t worry about whether those around your receive or reject it. Just make sure that you receive it!!

Lord, many times I lose sight of what you would have me to do because of the line of people that are blocking the way. Teach me not to worry about others but to concentrate on what you’ve given me to do. Amen.
