Can God Get Glory from My Life?
by Dominique Henderson
Just one more week of change. May this be a refreshing spring of water for your spirit as you wait patiently on the Lord. He is faithful and he will answer. Although it may seem that you are in a drought or a dry season, do not let your natural man perceive something that is not true. Continue to praise God for the season of harvest that you are in.
Verse 4…Delight yourself in the Lord…Living a life for God should bring us joy. I always tell my children that they must choose to have a good day. They are in full control of making themselves enjoy their day. Well I believe God demands of us the same thing. Wake up with praise on your lips. Walk to the bathroom with a song on your heart…and he will give you the desires of your heart…it wasn’t until some time during my Christian walk that I realized what this verse really meant. At first I really thought that God was like a genie, and that if I offered penance he would give me what I wanted. But as I matured I learned more about God’s character. As time goes on, there is a “rubbing off” effect. This in turn makes his desires become my desires which in effect fulfill his will and purpose for my life giving me great joy and fulfillment as well as the Father.
Verse 5…Commit you way to the Lord…Make up your mind to trust in God and God alone. Commit the transformation of your character and your spirit to him. He alone is faithful to give you grace to change your mindset or your way of thinking. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. ….trust in Him and he will do this…God has a purpose for each of our lives that only he can help us fulfill (see Philippians 1:6). Will you trust him to do his very best in your life? If you say “yes” you can trust the good and the bad that comes to you in life knowing that God is taking you down the path intended to bring him glory and to advance his kingdom. Trust him!
Verse 6…He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn…We can officially ignore all “haters” because God is our vindicator. We no longer have to pre-occupy ourselves with the conversations of others. There will be many that talk about you and say many untrue things about you, but God is in heaven keeping an accurate record and that is the only record with which we should be concerned …the justice of your cause like the noonday sun….the writer here is comparing the consistency of God with the regularity of the sun. God’s name is faithful (among other things) and he is the same yesterday, today and forevermore (see Hebrews 13:8).
Verse 7…Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him…Very possibly the hardest thing for us to do. There are many conflicts in life that keep us from doing this consistently and without complaining. However, God proves himself to us over and over again. Why then do we think that any situation can be too hard for him? Our posture should be that of being still before and waiting for him to come to our rescue…do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes… herein lies part of our problem in waiting on God. When it seems that all around us people are prospering and living a “conflict-free” life (and we have problems), we think that it is unfair because we are children of God. I know there was a time when I felt that being a Christian meant that I would never experience any serious conflicts in life because God would always be there and protect me from them. But there is no biblical evidence for this myth. As I experienced life, my faith was tested. Only then was I faced with turning my back on God because the fire was getting to hot or to rely on him (not to keep me from the fire, but) to take me through the fire (see Mark 4:3-9). Not saying it will be easy, but life in Christ will teach you that you must develop a daily dependence on him.
Be Blessed
