Can God Get Glory from My Life?

Time for the Harvest: "Believing my Big God for Big Things"

And it happened, before Isaiah had gone out into the middle court, that the word of the LORD came to him, saying, "Return and tell Hezekiah the leader of My people, "Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: "I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD. Then Isaiah said, "This is the sign to you from the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing which He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees or go backward ten degrees? And Hezekiah answered, "It is an easy thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees; no, but let the shadow go backward ten degrees. So Isaiah the prophet cried out to the LORD, and He brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down on the sundial of Ahaz." 2 Kings 20:4-5,9-11 (NKJV)

There are a lot of things about this time of year that I like. One particular aspect of fall that I enjoy is the coolness of the Texas air around what we call “fair-time”. You can ride in the morning hours with the windows down and just let the breeze hit your face. It is a very calming sensation that I very much enjoy. Fall is also known all around these parts as harvest time. All the hard work of planting and cultivating crops throughout the brutal Texas summer is rewarded with the harvest of the Fall. Well that natural concept is true in the spiritual realm. As we sow seeds of prayers and petitions to our God he hears them and as time passes those seeds grow into a bountiful spiritual harvest. King Hezekiah had come to his appointed time to die, but reminded God of his faithful seeds of service to the nation of Israel. And before the prophet Isaiah had left the courtyard God sent him word to tell the king that his life would be spared for fifteen more years. The scripture reads that, “I have heard your prayer and seen your tears” (see 2 Kings 20:5). I find it such an enormous comfort that the God of the universe hears my prayers and my petitions and is gracious enough to answer them. He is interested in my prayers of sowing and therefore is interested in my harvest. This same king is found in the book of Isaiah (see Isaiah 36-37) petitioning God earlier in life to deliver the nation of Israel from the conquering Assyrian army. As the threats came, King Hezekiah poured out his petition before God to be delivered from the hand of the enemy and God sent deliverance to him. We should never cease from petitioning our God with our requests. Paul tells us that we should not grow weary in our well-doing (our prayers, petitions, supplications) for in due season we shall reap if we don’t lose heart. (see Galatians 6:9) Even Jesus’ words to us were to “ask, seek and knock”. But what could make us lose heart? Well, undoubtedly a request that is immediately denied or delayed. However, I would encourage you to continue petitioning God for your harvest. My pastor has been teaching on a “kairos” (Greek word for a divine interruption by God) moment for some time. And this moment has nothing to do with chronological time that we would track with a time piece. It is a moment like no other. This moment will turn your life right-side up! This is the type of event that allowed Jesus to see the man at the pool of Bethesda and tell him to “rise, take up your bed and walk”. Although this man had been laid up in this same position for years, he was about to receive a divine interruption (a harvest if you will) into his life. I implore the believer in the most High God to continue offering your petitions to the Lord until you receive the divine “YES” of heaven into your life. What I love about the story with King Hezekiah is that his prayer was just an honest plea from a broken spirit to God about his life of service and dedication.

"Remember now, O LORD, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what was good in Your sight." And Hezekiah wept bitterly. 2 Kings 20:3

God honors our brokenness before him (see Psalm 34:18; 51:17). So today come boldly to the throne of grace and obtain mercy from God. How many times should you appear before the throne for the same thing? How long for that unsaved spouse? How long for a re-ordering of your financial “house”? How long for the curse of disease to be broken off of your family? As long as it takes. I haven’t read of any limit that God puts on coming before him. But I do know that in “due season (the divinely appointed time) I will reap, if I don’t give up”. Believe for your harvest!

Peace be with your spirit.
