Girl Meets God

Some things you see make quite an impression.
Like the little Cougar cheerleader at one of my boy's football games, who stood all alone on the 50-yard line, cheering her heart out.

She acted like she was in front of her grandmother's quilting club, instead of the opposing team. She did a cheer, an entire dance, a few jumps, and a kick while we all stared with our mouths open.

Where was the rest of her squad? Did she cheer alone every week? Was she not nervous at all? Her smile said "No."

She reminded me of the times I've felt alone in unfamiliar territory as I try to live out my life of faith.

In a great Old Testament story, Jonathan, son of Saul, was going up with his armor bearer to fight some Philistines. He said this about standing alone: "…Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few." (I Samuel 14:6, NIV)

Jonathan climbed up a cliff to meet this outpost of Philistines, and he and his armor bearer killed 20 men.

Just the two of them. Because "…Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few."
