Who Loves Your Mother?
Date Posted: May 14, 2006

(My husband Scott wrote this to share at church today for our communion meditation.)

We have a saying in our home. We practice it weekly. All our sons know it by memory. It is perhaps the most important thing anyone needs to know in our home. It goes like this:

"I love my mother very much. She is the greatest mother in the whole wide world. I cannot live without her."

Before breathing his last, there is an interesting detail in the last few moments of the ministry of Jesus—

"When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, 'Dear woman, here is your son.' And to the disciple, 'Here is your mother.' From that time on, this disciple took her into his home." (John 19:26-27)

From the cross, Jesus is speaking to the Apostle John, author of the Gospel of John and Revelation. It's like he's saying "John, before you start the church, and before you write those books, take care of my mom." It's as if he's saying,

"John, I love my mother very much. She is the greatest mother in the whole wide world. I could not have lived without her. Take care of her."

As you remember Christ on the cross today and his death for your sins, remember also His love for His mom- and His love for your mom! Thank God today for dying on the cross for your mom. He loves your mother very much- even more than you.

P.S. It's hard to imagine that anybody loves my mom more than I do. Thanks Mom, for being the best mother in the whole wide world. I cannot live without you- Melissa
