God's Words For US

    by Cecelia Lester

Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and rest. . .I would hurry to my place of shelter. Psalm 55:6,8 (NIV) David was fearful of his enemies. It looked to him that his life would soon end. He thought that he could find rest in shelter from those who intended to harm him. ……  ( Click for more )

“If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways. Then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and hear their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)

When you encounter problems in life, do they tend to get you anxious? Does it seem that you cannot forget the hurt someone has caused you? How do you solve them? What about the issues our cities and towns face? What about the states and the nations? We have available a tool that can cause improvement in our outlook and in our world. King…  ( Click for more )

“I will bless them and the places surrounding my hill. I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.” Ezekiel 34:26 (NIV)

From time to time, we receive blessing from God. He chooses to grant us special favors to make our lives richer. We spend a certain season of the year counting the ways God has blessed us. Could it be possible that we are to acknowledge His blessings upon us throughout the year?

This spring I started a journal listing of blessings God showered on me. My goal is to be able to share one thousand blessings in my blog…  ( Click for more )

“This day I have called heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life. . .” Deuteronomy 30:19 (NIV)

As individuals, we make choices every day of our lives, starting from when the alarm rings each morning to when we retire for the night.

We had an elderly relative who was a very early riser. She called me once and asked me to meet her the next day at the building where her doctor was located and go with her to her doctor appointment. The hospital’s patient van would transport…  ( Click for more )

You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge in the sinful nature; rather serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13 Paul, in writing to the Galatian believers, cautioned them to use their freedom to serve one another in love. In today’s world,……  ( Click for more )

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. Isaiah 61:1 (NIV) As we honor God in our world today, we may……  ( Click for more )

Love

“. . . and the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13)

Poets write about it. Songwriters pen lyrics and spark something in our hearts. The apostle Paul tells us it is “. . . the greatest of these. . . .” He also calls love “the most excellent way.” (1 Corinthians 12:31)

Jesus tells us to “love the Lord, you God, with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” (Mark 12; 30) He also commands us to “Love your neighbor as yourself.”(Mark 12:30)

“Love”…  ( Click for more )

I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. Psalm 119:45 (NIV) As we in the United States celebrate our freedom this month, I think of how we celebrate Christ. I once heard that we celebrate Jesus Christ every time we gather to worship. It came to me that we celebrate God……  ( Click for more )

“Ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will open.

Matthew 7:7 (NIV)

ASK

When we have a need and we approach someone as we seek help from him or her, how do we bring up the need? Do we use force and demand that need be met? It doesn’t work like that. We have to ask. When I was a child, there was a saying. “You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.” I didn’t fully understand the meaning until I became an adult. We will be received better when we present our needs as requests.

When…  ( Click for more )

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed, perplexed but not in despair, persecuted but not abandoned, struck down but not dismayed. 2 Corinthians 4:7-9 (NIV) I referred……  ( Click for more )

Spiritual Gifts Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is……  ( Click for more )

Bond of Peace

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” Ephesians 4:3 (NIV)

As children of God, we strive to seek tranquility in our lives. Every area of our life-home, workplace, and our business relationships- is to bring comfort to those we encounter.

Given the state of the world, we may find this difficult to do. We get hit from every side by events and happenings that the devil plans to undermine our beliefs and our faith in our way of life.

Paul tells us to…  ( Click for more )

 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere . Grow in Grace

“. . . grow in the grace and knowledge of our

Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory

both now and forever. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18 (NIV)

Children of God should grow each day. Our new growth strengthens our beliefs. Even when we have times of questioning we come out stronger.

In 1996, my husband, our son and I helped move my dad and stepmother into a nice brick home from a mobile home. They had lived in the country for about 25 years. Both of them had developed major health issues and Dad wanted them to be located where…  ( Click for more )

Come, Rest

“Then, because so many people were coming and going

that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them,

‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’”

Mark 6:31 (NIV)

In my past, I remember I’d rush around getting things done. One December I decorated our living room foe Christmas in 45 minutes. That’s all the time I had that Saturday. Our son was in elementary school, he was in the church Christmas play-that practice was two hours long in the morning. The pastor’s…  ( Click for more )

In going through a computer crash and dealing with a technician whom I found short on my idea of customer service, learning a new computer system and word processing software, I felt a bit stressed. That was one week lately.

The next week started out almost like the first. I spent Monday morning trying to call a nearby institution. I had an item to drop off to them and needed to do it that day. No one was there. I finally called the contact person for the third time in two days. She told me I could drop off the item at her house.

As God’s children, we are led by Him as we walk through each day. The Israelites followed Moses and later Joshua, under the Lord’s leading, into the land promised them by Father God.

“By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light so they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left them.” Exodus 13:20-21 (NIV)

“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. Romans 8 26 (NIV)
