God's Words For US

God's Real

God has been especially real to me to me this week. I can feel His presence; those arms of love surround me as we await word from our son.

Our son lives 600 miles away from our home. He’s on a week’s vacation from his job. At almost the last minute, he changed his plans and chose to go to Rocky Mountain National Park to tent camp. If you met him, you’d probably call him a loner—he went camping by himself.

When he called and told us of his finalized plans, I asked him to call us while he was gone. My reason for doing this was purely selfish—I am aware of the dangers associated with that region.

In 1988, the three of us were there. Hubby and Son walked a trail. Hubby saw signs of fresh bear scratches on a tree. I remember hearing of the flash flood that went through a nearby canyon filled with campers in 1976.

This past Sunday, we heard of the forest fire in Larimer County-around Ft.Collins. That is the same county the park is in. We had just talked to him two hours earlier.

When I heard Hubby say this was the same county. I started calling prayer warriors from church. When I called one of the church secretaries, she knew why I was calling. We had been together at a graduation open house in the middle of the afternoon. She had already started the church prayer chain.

I emailed my prayer team for my writing ministry, a prayer list in which I participate, and some individuals whom I knew would pray. I posted messages on Facebook, LinkedIn.

Hubby and I watched television and talked a bit. I turned in around 1:00 A. M. I prayed for some needs I heard about at church, finally falling asleep.

During the first days of this week, I felt God’s presence whenever I thought of our son. I felt God’s love as people responded with words of encouragement and prayers.

Our son called Monday, he told us the campground he stayed in had 300 sites-all filled. He went to a ranger’s station and asked some pertinent questions about the forest fire. They are used to things like this; they told him he would be all right. (In his words, they rolled their eyes.)

In my reading this week, I read a devotion that gave me a deeper understanding of the message of Proverbs 3:5-6. As I read the passage, my heart spoke to me about these words. *Trust* the Lord your God with *all* your heart and *lean not on your understanding*.

*Do we trust God only when it’s convenient for us or do we trust God all the time?

*Do we allow God access to our complete heart and soul?

*Do we save a section or a room in our hearts for when we have doubts and concerns and concentrate on issues looking through those windows?

As I read Proverbs 3:5-6, I felt I had only scraped the surface of trusting God. The strange part of this experience is God had given me this word at the beginning of the year.

In the midst of all this I attended an initial meeting of a Women’s ministry group at church. The facilitator said something about trusting God that stuck. She said that God asks us, “Do you trust me to trust you with the circumstance?”

We ask “Why, God?” We build up the stress of circumstances by worrying about what we see or perceive. When all we have to do is give it to the Lord and let Him work out the kinks or the knots.
