It truly takes a real man to be a great daddy. The best traits of a father, we learn from God because He is, was, and will be the first Dad.

If you haven’t seen the movie Courageous produced by the Kendrick brothers from Sherwood Films, then run and get your copy of the DVD. I found the Resolution and have been thinking about the way each of the individual resolutions come directly from the Bible and how God has exhibited them to us as our Abba Father.

THE RESOLUTION

I do solemnly resolve before God to take full responsibility for myself, my wife, and my children.

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you."

I WILL love them, protect them, serve them, and teach them the Word of God as the spiritual leader of my home.

Job 33:29 "Behold, God works all these things, Twice, in fact, three times with a man, 30 To bring back his soul from the Pit, That he may be enlightened with the light of life. 31 "Give ear, Job, listen to me; Hold your peace, and I will speak. 32 If you have anything to say, answer me; Speak, for I desire to justify you. 33 If not, listen to me; Hold your peace, and I will teach you wisdom."

I WILL be faithful to my wife, to love and honor her, and be willing to lay down my life for her as Jesus Christ did for me.

Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

I WILL bless my children and teach them to love God with all of their hearts, all of their minds, and all of their strength.

Psalm 32:7 You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. Selah 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

Psalm 51:6 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.

I WILL train them to honor authority and live responsibly.

Mark 10:42 But Jesus called them and said to them, You know that they who are accounted rulers over the nations exercise lordship over them. And their great ones exercise authority on them. 43But it shall not be so among you. But whoever desires to be great among you, let him be your servant. 44And whoever of you desires to become first, he shall be servant of all.

I WILL confront evil, pursue justice, and love mercy.

Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does Jehovah require of you but to do justice and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God?

I WILL pray for others and treat them with kindness, respect, and compassion.

Psalm 143:8 Cause me to hear Your loving-kindness in the morning, for I do trust in You; cause me to know the way in which I should walk, for I lift up my soul to You.

I WILL work diligently to provide for the needs of my family.

Genesis 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide Himself a lamb for a burnt offering. So they both went together.

Psalm 65:9 You visit the earth and water it; You greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; You provide their grain, for in this way You have prepared it.

I WILL forgive those who have wronged me and reconcile with those I have wronged.

Psalm 86:5 For You, Lord, are good and ready to forgive, and rich in mercy to all those who call on You.

I WILL learn from my mistakes, repent of my sins, and walk with integrity as a man answerable to God.

Psalm 41:12 And I, in my integrity You uphold me; and You set me before Your face forever.

Proverbs 11:3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them; but the crookedness of traitors shall destroy them.

I WILL seek to honor God, be faithful to His church, obey His Word, and do His will.

Psalm 101:6 My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, so that they may dwell with me; he who walks in a perfect way, he shall serve Me.

I WILL courageously work with the strength God provides to fulfill this resolution for the rest of my life and for His glory.

Job 12:13 With Him is wisdom and strength; He has wisdom and understanding.

Psalm 18:2 Jehovah is my strength, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock; I will trust in Him; He is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. – Joshua 24:15
