Relationships of The Heart w/ Nancy

A Lifestyle of Humility
Date Posted: April 25, 2010

During his life on earth, Jesus Christ was a true example of a life that exemplified humility. The affluent Phillippians were unable to understand a life of true humility. The Philippian culture exalted the lifestyle of the rich and famous. They viewed a humble person as someone with no intelligence and as a groveling, wretched slave. In the book of Philippains, Paul writes of a different type of humility. "Let nothing be done out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind, let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you, look not only to your own interests, but also for the interests of others." (Philippians 2:3-4)
Jesus walked this earth before he went to the cross with a heart of humility, shown in the actions of his life. John 8, speaks of a woman who was caught in adultery. The Pharisees desired the woman to be stoned, but Jesus felt compassion for her. He did not condemn her. Instead, he said, "Go and sin no more." The actions and life of Jesus reached out to the woman with a hand extended, that was full of forgiveness.
Jesus not only spoke with a woman caught in adultery, but he ate dinner with tax collectors and sinners. The Pharisee's questions about who he hung out with, did not stop him from doing what his Father had called him to do. He recognized the sick were in need of healing. Jesus stepped out in humility and held out his hands to those around him in need. Over and over again, we see a heart of humility shown in action. The life of Jesus Christ presents us with a life of humility. Jesus forgave and loved all. He even loved those who caused him pain. At the appointed time, Jesus obediently and humbly went to the cross and died for us. Take a moment and think about your own life. Do you desire to live a life of humility in action as Jesus did? If so, you will never be alone. The Father has provided a helper. (Study John 14:15-30) As you read, ask the Counselor, the Holy Spirit to teach you "ALL" things, including how to live a life of humility according to God's way of living and not the world's. Then you will be willing and able to reach out to others with the love of Jesus Christ.
