Community, Is It Optional?
Date Posted: May 11, 2008

Have you ever thought about the word community in a personal context? In a personal context the word community may bring thoughts to our minds according to our experience. For those who grew up in a small town or village this may bring to mind the entire town and it's various people. If we grew up in a large city this may bring to mind the thoughts of our activity in the community, not in the city as a whole, but within smaller groups and organizations. Community may bring to mind a group of friends that we spent time with in High School, our neighborhood, present or past.

If we attend a church whether small, medium or large we are involved in God's community. We are part of our local church, but we are also part of the worldwide body of Christ. As Christians in the body of Christ we are not defined by numbers, but instead by our beliefs according to God's word. We believe; (1) God is the ultimate creator and sustainer of all things in heaven and earth, Genesis 1:1. (2) The Holy Bible is God's inspired word and the only infallible, authoritative Word of God, 2 Timothy 3:16, (3) The one true God is a triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, (4) In the virgin birth. (5) Christ's death on the cross. (6) His bodily resurrection. (7) The ascension. (8) In the return of Chist for his church. In addition the church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit and is called to live in unity, Ephesians 4:1-16.

This weeks relational question; Why should I as a Christian spend time with others within my local body of Christ? What is my part in the body of Christ? Read the following scripture for God's answer.

John 13:34-35, Romans 12:10, Romans 13:8, Galatians 5:13, Ephesians 4:2, Hebrews 10:24,1Peter 1:22,1Peter 3:8,1Peter 5:14,1John 3:11,1John 3:23,1John 4:7,1John 4:11-12,2 John 1:5

Most importantly let us never forget, "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching" Hebrews 10:24-25
