Guarding Against Discouragement (2)
Date Posted: December 13, 2009

When we read a newspaper, listen to the news, or spend time in the midst of the people in our societies, it is not long before we hear words of complaint about the global economy. We also may read or hear conversations of people who are complaining about the Christian Church of today. In my personal experience the majority of the complaints I hear are coming from those who claim the words, "I am Christian." If we spend time in this atmosphere too long, by the time we walk away, we may become just as discouraged as they sound. Each one of us must find a way to guard against discouraging words.

Granted, there are issues that exist, but if we claim to be Christians God calls us to speak and to live by a different standard than the world around us.” It does not mean that this standard is easy, but God’s word gives us guidance, instruction, and promises so we can live successfully and victoriously in a struggling global economy and in the midst of church relational struggles. In the land of technology, not long ago, the Lord was prompting me to draw a line in the sand. The line I drew was to remove and delete any e-mails and forwards that were sent my way, tearing down those in political authority positions. God reminded me of 1 Timothy 2:1-2 which I have written below. Would it not be great, if people spent the time praying as God’s word instructs instead of circulating the junk that is written. Not long ago I left a classroom, where once again, the conversation arose, that was a tearing down of the church. When we make the decision to stay in this environment, even if it is a classroom setting, we are taking part in tearing down our brothers and sisters in Christ. Yes, there are problems that exist today, in our churches, but instead of adding fuel to the fire, should we stop expounding on the negative and teach what the church is to be or who God desires us to be as his children? Times a wasting my friends, it is time to make a choice. Will we spend time in prayer as instructed in 1 Timothy 2:1-2 or continue to tear down the nations and their leaders? Will we continue to speak words of ridicule over God’s church or become those who lift her up as the bride of Christ in tough times?

1 Timothy 2:1-2; I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. As you make your requests, pray for God’s mercy upon them, and give thanks. Pray this way for kings and all those who are in authority, so that we can live in peace and quietness, in godliness and dignity.

Galatians 5:15; But if instead of showing love among yourselves you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another.
