The Missing Stone
Date Posted: September 11, 2011

The other day I happened to look down at the ring on my right hand. It had been on the same ring finger for years. I had worn it for so long it had become part of my finger, complete with indentation. Very seldom did I think about the ring or notice it. I would twist it around on my finger, only out of habit. This time was different. When I felt the stone I immediately looked down because what I was use to feeling felt different. When I began to take a look at my ring I noticed half of the stone was missing. Hmmmm....I thought I have no idea when I lost half of the stone. I took the ring off because it was no longer attractive and set it on the top shelf of my desk. A few days later I noticed it on my desk picked it up and took a closer look at the missing part of the stone. As I placed it on my desk again I had no desire to find the missing piece of the stone or replace it. I began to think of how many times in our life God calls us to leave old things behind and begin to move into a new season of life. What use to be new is now old and God is doing a new thing in our lives. The challenge is; "Will we willingly leave behind the old things and move in to the new? Will we willingly step into the unknown and allow God to do a new thing in our life? Will we willingly trust him enough to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit into a new territory of life when we do not have all of the details? Will we be people who are willing to move forward or people who shrink back?"

So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to perservere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For in just a little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay. But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him." But we are not of those who shrink back, and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved. (Hebrews 10:35-39)

Abraham in the Old Testament is an example of someone who was willing to follow God into the unknown. God promised him a son and in old age his wife Sarah birthed a son Issac. (Genesis 18:10) Abraham was instructed to go to a land that he would show him. (Genesis 12:1) Did he turn around and refuse? No, instead Abraham set out to a land without being able to check out the land first. He followed God to the land of the unknown. He walked in obedience on the path that God chose for him. God spoke to Abraham and reminded him not to fear, "Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield, your great reward." (Genesis 15:1)

This weeks question; Are we willing to leave old things behind and move on to the new? Are we willing to trust God and walk into the unknown? Are we willing to call out to God, listen and then follow his leading? Jeremiah 33:3; Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
